"Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed."  - Maria Montessori

The Montessori Method

Dr. Maria Montessori

Over 100 years ago, Dr. Maria Montessori developed the Montessori Method of education through scientific observations.  Maria designed learning materials and a classroom environment that fostered the children's natural desire to learn.  She opened the first Montessori school in Rome,  on January 6, 1907.

"The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn." - Maria Montessori

The Montessori Approach

The teacher, child and environment create a learning triangle.  The classroom is prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order.  Through the grace and courtesy lessons,  the children develop social skills while building self-esteem and independence.

"Free the child's potential and you will transform him into the world." - Maria Montessori

Inside a Montessori Clasrroom

The Montessori classroom is a child-sized world.  The materials are designed to stimulate independent exploration.  The prepared environment entices the child to proceed at her own pace from simple activites to more complex ones.  Areas in a Montessori classroom include: practical life, sensorial, language, math, geography, science, botany, art, music and movement.

Within the classroom and through grace and courtesy, the child develops a sense of community.  Learning respect for others and care for their environment.

"The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence." - Maria Montessori
